You may be aware that the Wakefield District Local Plan was submitted for independent examination in May 2021. The new local plan for Wakefield district will guide investment and growth, as well as safeguard and improve the environment, up to 2036. The Inspector has indicated a Pre-Main Modifications consultation should be undertaken on new accepted site options, proposed through the Schedule of Changes 2021 at submission of the Wakefield District Local Plan 2036 and omitted site options submitted at the Initial Draft Plan consultation stage. The purpose of this consultation is to allow for comments to be received to inform the main modifications consultation that will be required later in the year. At the moment, the Main Modifications consultation is anticipated for Autumn 2022. The Inspector will consider whether further hearing sessions are needed relating to proposed changes to the Plan. The Council is seeking comments on:
- Pre-Main Modifications Site Assessments – New Accepted Sites 2022
- Pre-Main Modifications Sustainability Appraisal Report Appendix F
The following supporting documents are also available for information:
- Pre-Main Modifications Site Assessment Technical Paper Addendum
- Pre-Main Modifications Site Selection Stage 2 and Stage 3 Analysis Note Update

The Pre-main Modification consultation takes place for six weeks from Thursday 31 March until 5pm on Wednesday 11 May 2022. Comments made during this consultation should relate to legal and procedural compliance and the soundness of the modifications in the listed reports. The tests of soundness are in the National Planning Policy Framework.
