Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Featherstone Town Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-text content (A)
Home page – Replace slider with static images or add ability to pause with keyboard shortcut.
Info and relationships (A)
- Councillors Page – Councillors cards need to be reset to the original format
- Add <h1> heading to the homepage
- On council meetings page, previous year accordions do not habe an aria label of tablist on the parent of the href.
- Heading elements should be sequential throughout.
- Add titles and tale summaries to each PDF.
Orientation (A)
Top menu has 8 items, at some resolutions the sub menu items fall to one side when hovered (though this is not an issue on a mobile device). Top menu is to be stripped down to bare essentials with better hierarchy.
Identify Input Purpose (AA)
The 2 forms on the site (contact and mayor request) have AAA compliant inputs but labels need adding for each input field to meet AA compliance.
Use of Colour (A)
Standard dotted line is not obfuscated and it passes the criteria, it would be beneficial to add an extra visual cue by adding a focus property to the stylesheet for all clickable elements.
Contrast minimum (AA)
Perform a full review of text contrast at the same time as font sixes throughout the site.
Images of text (AA)
Replace text part of logo with actual text.
Non-Text Contract (AA)
Increase input field contrast to 3:1 or greater.
Text Spacing (AA)
Adjust margins on the site to allow more space or adjust this page’s media breakpoints from 3 columns to 2 sooner.
Headings and labels (AA)
Replace bold paragraphs with the appropriate heading (h2, h3 etc.) on all appropriate pages.
On Focus (A)
Add ARIA labels to the social media icons in the footer.
Parsing (A)
Regular inspections are required upon site updates.
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential for active administrative processes. We plan to make all PDFs accessible by September 2021 and new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
How we tested this website
This website was last tested on 1st July – 8th August 2020. The test was carried out by Paul Townend of On Screen, based on a sample of most-visited pages. All flagged priority issues were investigated and, where possible, will be addressed by early 2021.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We have a rolling programme of updating the content and design of this website in accordance with the guidelines set out by the WCAG and will continue to assess and improve our accessibility based on these guidelines, user testing and user feedback. We aim to get everything finished and compliant by early 2021.
