The Mayor’s Civic Service took place on Sunday 10th May at St Thomas Church.
The Civic and Mayor’s awards are made every year honouring local people who make outstanding contribution to the local community.
This years Civic Award winners are :
Mr Roger Parkinson
Featherstone Rovers Volunteer Group
Ms Eileen Davis
Mr Parkinson has been fundamental in the work that he has carried out in relation to the Commemorative Wood at Mill Pond.
Featherstone Rovers Volunteer Group have carried out unpaid work building the new stand and much needed improvements at Featherstone Rovers.
Ms Eileen Davis has been a great aid to the Town Council events by selling Tea Dance Tickets and raffle tickets to help with the fundraising of the Mayor.
The Mayor Councillor Jan Power has also chosen her Mayor’s Awards. This year the award goes to:
Mr Derek & Mrs Frances Varndell
Featherstone Food Bank Group
Derek & Frances are Church Wardens for St Thomas Church and have helped out where possible during the Mayor’s Civic Year, with events such as the Mayor’s Charity Concert and a Bring & Buy Sale in the Church Hall.
Featherstone Food bank for the tremendous work that is carried out at the Food bank in Station Lane. Many families in the community rely on this service in times of hardship, and the work that goes on behind the scenes is invaluable to the community.
The service was a great success and was an enjoyable morning for all those who attended.
