On Friday 17th February the Mayor of Featherstone will be holding a Charity Auction at Girnhill Lane WMC.
We are currently seeking donations that we can auction on the night from local businesses.
The aim of Town Mayor is to represent the proud people of Featherstone however, the post also allows the Mayor to choose a charity; this year Councillor Vickers has chosen The National Autistic Society. The aim in choosing a Charity is not only to raise much needed funds, but also raise awareness and let people know that there are organisations to help. The Charity is a very worthy cause and the Mayor finds that the more people he meets the more he learns that many have some form of autism within their family life.
The National Autistic Society support over 700,000 people with autism to help them live the life they choose. They are the leading UK Charity for people with autism including Asperger syndrome and their families. They provide information, support and pioneering services, and campaign for a better world for people with autism. Their work relies on our support.
The money the Mayor raises will help fund The National Autistic Society’s work such as, for example, the Autism Helpline. Sixty thousand people a year call the helpline – a lifeline for many families and people with autism. One of the callers, Jacqui, has a son, Luke, with autism who had experienced 10 years of constant bullying at school. The Autism Helpline was there for her when she needed it most.
“One day Luke was found on the street bleeding and with a black eye after a gang at school beat him up he never went back. I know first-hand that a friendly and knowledgeable voice can be of amazing benefit. It is comforting to know that parents don’t feel alone.”
Any donations received will be recognised on the night and a list will also be published on the Town Council’s website along with a link to your web address.
