Each year Featherstone Town Council in its ‘Caring for our Community’ projects, funds for all year 6 pupils in the Junior schools in Featherstone and Streethouse to visit the National Coal Mining Museum to learn about the Mining heritage of our Towns. It offers an unusual combination of exciting experiences, whilst providing a genuine insight into the hard-working lives of miners through the ages. The lifestyle their parents/grandparents had to contend with over the years should not be forgotten.
The tour includes a 140m trip underground to view the conditions of what our forefathers has to endure with, not only men but women and children who worked down the mines. There is also a workshop which the children attend while on the trip.
